The Microscope, 1938-1940, 1946-1948
The Microscope was the
Victoria College student newsletter. From 1938-1940, it was produced as
a typescript newsletter containing articles, and original photographs
and cartoons, which was posted for students to read. Canadian author
Pierre Berton was an assistant editor and principle cartoonist for
these
issues. From 1946-1948 it was a four page printed newspaper.
The Martlet, 1948-1973
The Martlet
succeeded The Microscope as the student newspaper
at Victoria
College in 1948, and continued through the transition from the College
to the University of Victoria in 1963. It remains the University's
principle student newspaper. Its sponsoring bodies have been the
Victoria College Alma Mater Society and its successors, the University
of Victoria Alma Mater Society, and the University of Victoria
Students'
Society.
Gazette of the University of Victoria, 1963-1975
The Gazette of
the University of Victoria reported information about major
policy
decisions made by the Board of Governors and Senate, listed
faculty and staff appointments and promotions, and reported on new
buildings and various events.
UVic Alumni Quarterly, 1965-1980
The University of Victoria
Alumni Quarterly was published by the Alumni Association of
the
University of Victoria. It contained news relating to the alumni,
events
and activities of the University.
