Photograph contains view of the ceremony to commemorate the official opening of the University of Victoria and the laying of the cornerstone of the McPherson Library. Left to right: Lieutenant Governor George R. Pearkes, Chancellor Joseph B. Clearihue, and Archbishop Harold E. Sexton. In background, the commemorative plaque reads, "This stone laid by Major General the Honourable George R. Pearkes Lieutenant Governor of the Province of British Columbia on July 2nd, 1963 commemorates the founding of the University of Victoria."
