The Carnation Creek Community History Project was a research project done by Wendy Kotilla as the final requirement for the Restoration of Natural Systems Diploma Program at the University of Victoria. The project documents the social and ecological history of the Carnation Creek watershed, located in Barkley Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Through a series of oral interviews with the Huu-ay-aht First Nation peoples of the region, and the scientists studying forest harvest impacts on fish and their habitat, the project provides a comprehensive portrait of Carnation Creek, its traditional uses and ancient land management structure. The project bridges the scientific and traditional communities at Carnation Creek by acknowledging their different world views and recognizing the landscape as common ground for sharing a collective future vision. Wendy Kotilla has worked with the fisheries resource in BC since 1983 as a commercial fisherman, and in the field of salmon enhancement, fisheries/forestry research, and ecological/social restoration.

The fonds consists of the following series: Reports, 1999-2001; Field notes of interview with Angie Joe, 1999; Transcripts of interviews with First Nations, 1998-1999, including: Robert Dennis, Tom Happynook, Tom and Liz Happynook, Herb Joe, Tom Joe, Spencer Peters, Willie Sport; Transcripts of interviews with scientific researchers, 1999-2000, including: Gordon Hartman, Eugene Hetherington, Dick Leahy, Dave Narver, Charlie Scrivener, and Peter Tschaplinski.
